Advice for Rain on Your Wedding Day
Firstly – and most importantly – rain does not ruin a wedding day. I’ve photographed plenty of wet and rainy weddings, and they’ve still been incredible celebrations filled with love, laughter and happy moments. ☔🤍
If it rains on your wedding day, it very rarely rains nonstop. There are usually dry gaps throughout the day, which means you can still have those beautiful outdoor photos you were hoping for.
I always keep an eye on the weather so we can slip outside for a few couple portraits between showers whenever the timing is right.
Even if it’s only lightly drizzling, we can often use sheltered outdoor spots such as a bandstand, doorway, tree cover or veranda – giving you lovely outdoor images while keeping everyone dry.
If you’re getting married in the UK, even in summer, there’s always a chance of rain – so it’s worth being prepared rather than worrying about it. ☔
A simple tip is to have a few umbrellas ready for yourselves, your wedding party and guests to grab if needed. They can be both practical and look lovely in photos too.
It’s also worth checking with your venue in advance, as many wedding venues already keep umbrellas by the entrance for exactly this reason.

Photography in the Rain
One of the most common questions couples ask is: What happens to our photos if it rains? ☔
The honest answer is – not much changes. You’ll still have beautiful photographs and a brilliant day.
My approach is documentary-led, which means I focus on real moments as they naturally unfold. Laughter, hugs, reactions, atmosphere and all the little moments still happen whatever the weather.
Rain doesn’t stop the story of your day – it simply becomes part of it.
And don’t worry about me or the camera either… I don’t mind getting a little wet (as long as you don’t mind my hair going slightly wild!)

Get Yourself Some Wellies
If your venue is in the countryside, has beautiful grounds, or you’re planning a marquee or festival-style wedding, a spare pair of wellies can be an absolute lifesaver. 👢
They’re perfect for muddy paths, damp grass and sneaking out for photos without worrying about ruining your shoes.
Keep a pair nearby for both of you, just in case the weather turns. It means we can still make the most of outdoor spaces while you stay comfortable and stress-free. Sometimes the best photos happen when couples simply embrace it and have fun.

Have Your Photographs Inside
If the rain is heavy or it’s simply too cold outside, indoor photographs are a great option. Many venues have beautiful interiors that work perfectly for portraits, family photos and natural candid moments. ✨
Think elegant staircases, cosy lounges, large windows, entranceways or character-filled rooms – these spaces often create stunning images with a different kind of atmosphere.
If space is limited, we can adapt by doing smaller family groupings rather than one large group shot, keeping everything relaxed and easy.
It’s also a great idea to look around your venue beforehand and notice the indoor spaces available. That way, if the weather turns, we already know exactly where to go and can keep things flowing smoothly on the day

Final Thoughts
Whatever the weather brings, your wedding day can still be beautiful, relaxed and full of unforgettable moments. Some sunshine is lovely, but rain never stops the laughter, emotion or love that truly makes the day special.
Trust your suppliers, go with the flow, and focus on what really matters – marrying the person you love.
And if it rains? We’ll make magic with it. ☔
