ADVICE FOR RAIN ON YOUR WEDDING DAY
Firstly, and most importantly! I have photographed numerous wet and rainy weddings, and it has never remotely spoiled things. They have all been the most wonderful celebrations, filled with all the love and happiness that you would expect. Well if it rains on your wedding day, it won’t rain all day and you can still get those lovely outdoor photographs that you were planning. As a photographer on a rainy wedding day, I always keep an eye on the weather so we can nip outside for your couple shots between showers, if I know that’s what is important to you.
Even if it is a bit drizzly, find an outdoor location with some cover -a bandstand, some tree cover – to have your photographs taken, ensuring you stay dry.
If you’re getting married in the UK, even in the summer, the reality is there’s every chance it could rain.
Have a selection of umbrellas on standby for yourselves, your wedding party and your guests to grab and cover-up at short notice, just in case! Or just check with your wedding venue – they usually have some by the door.
PHOTOGRAPHY IN THE RAIN
The question that I get asked the most is, of course, what will happen with my photography on the day? If the weather is bad, how will this affect the photographs? My photography is documentary-based, don’t worry about the camera and me I don’t mind getting wet (as long you don’t mind my hair being a bit messy!)
Get yourself some wellies!
If your venue is in the countryside or has lots of lovely grounds that you’d like to get photographs in, or if you’re planning a marquee or festival-style wedding, then a change of footwear will be a must!
Get some wellies for you (and your other half if it’s looking to be really wet) and keep them somewhere handy for a quick change if you need them.
Cuddle up
Sure it’s raining, but guys it’s YOUR WEDDING DAY! Take the change in temperature as a great excuse to cuddle up to each other, particularly during your photographs together. In case it is a bit nippy, then set out some woollen blankets or pashminas in a basket for you & your guests – they will love that they can wrap up & still enjoy the day as the night draws in, without having to bring a spare jacket!
Embrace the weather!

As I always tell my couples – it’s all part of the story!
Remember the real reason that you’re getting married – it isn’t because of the weather, it’s because you love each other.
Have your photographs inside
If it really is raining, or too cold outside, another option is to have your photographs outside.
Most places have indoor areas that will work well for portraits. You may have to compromise on some of your group shots if space is limited, or maybe you do a few smaller groups rather than the bigger group arrangements.
In case it is a bit nippy, set out some woolen blankets in a basket for you and your guests – they will love that they can wrap up.
Scope out indoor locations at your venue beforehand
When you go to your venue, take a look at the indoor areas as well as the outside space and grounds. If the rain is too heavy on the day to have any photos outside, the indoor areas of your venue are the next option.
